Project Description:

In 2016, the ACT Government announced the preferred bidder for delivery of the first Stage of the Canberra Light Rail project which travels 12km between the northern township of Gungahlin and the City Centre of Canberra. The Canberra Metro Consortium were appointed to build, maintain and operate the first stage of this project. Abi Civil are proud of our involvement in the construction of the Light Rail network in Canberra.

Abi Civil were successful in securing a contract with John Holland/CPB Joint Venture to provide Labour Hire for the construction phase of the project and commenced engagement in November 2017 and remains on the project as at April 2019.

At the peak period of our contract, we had 107 construction workers employed to perform works associated with:

  • Formwork
  • Concrete Works (FRP)
  • Structural Works
  • General Labour Works
  • Plant and Equipment operators
  • Signalling Infrastructure
  • Electrical
  • Utilities

Our involvement with this project proved to be highly successful, proving our ability to source and maintain a level of employees with the skill sets required by our client in achieving a high level of safety, quality and program.

The fact that our workforce remains on this project is testimony to the fact that Abi Civil is considered a contractor of choice given our involvement in the construction phase of the project and its final stages of completion.
