TYPE OF CONTRACT:

CONTRACT VALUE:

$160,000.00

Modifications have been completed along the rail corridor between Springwood and Lithgow stations to allow the New Intercity Fleet trains to service customers. Abi Civil were engaged to complete the modifications to Heritage awnings located at Leura and Hazelbrook stations.

SCOPE:

  • Disconnect exiting drainage
  • Remove heritage fascia/ façade
  • Cut back station canopy roof sheeting
  • Cut back cast iron roof struts
  • Redrill cast iron struts
  • Replace existing heritage components with new components of canopy
  • Removal of lead paint and repainting of all affected station components

HOW THESE WERE OVERCOME:

Abi Civil applied detailed planning to ensure all compliant heritage materials were procured prior to arriving onsite due to limitations of procuring materials during shutdown times.

Careful planning was also necessary to ensure the appropriate plant was utilised to conduct the works in a safe and efficient manner as site access was relatively tight, restricted and at times congested.

Regular liaison with other contractors in the same area was required, and works were staged in an efficient manner so areas could be handed over incrementally.
